Odontologia.A expansão rápida da maxila é a separação da sutura palatina mediana, abrindo-a juntamente com a base esquelética da maxila, pelo uso de um aparelho disjuntor (como preconizado por Haas, em 1965). Então, o propósito deste trabalho foi analisar o posicionamento ântero-posterior e vertical da maxila decorrentes do procedimento de expansão rápida da maxila. Realizou-se uma revisão da literatura pertinente, onde foram utilizados livros, artigos e teses. Analisou-se a abertura da sutura palatina mediana, através da disjunção, e observou-se, conforme exposto pelos pesquisadores, o aumento relevante da base óssea maxilar transversalmente, da cavidade nasal e interorbital. O perímetro e o comprimento dos arcos superior e inferior sofrem aumento importante durante a fase ativa da expansão maxilar. So, the purpose of this study was to analyze the positioning anteroposterior and vertical maxillary from the procedure of rapid maxillary expansion. We conducted a literature review, which were used books, articles and theses. We analyzed the opening of the sutures through the disjunction, and it was observed, as shown by the researchers, the relevant increase of the base across the jaw bone, interorbital and nasal cavity. The perimeter and the length of the upper and lower arches suffer significant increase during the active phase of maxillary expansion. Finally, there was a shift forward and down of maxillary, while the wondible moved down and back.
