Consolidación de la Red de Unidades de Información Especializadas (RUIE) de la Universidad de Costa Rica.

Abstract

En la Universidad de Costa Rica existen Unidades de Información Especializadas, algunas con más de 35 años de existencia. De estas Unidades de Información, 10 integran la Red de Bibliotecas Especializadas (RUIE), de ellas 3 son bibliotecas especializadas, 6 son centros de documentación y 1 biblioteca virtual. El objetivo general de este proyecto es consolidar y fortalecer la Red de Unidades de Información Especializadas de la Universidad de Costa Rica. Este propósito es que en una misma página podamos visibilizar a cada una de las base de datos a fin de dar cuenta de todos los recursos documentales existentes en las diferentes instancias de la universidad y ponerla al servicio de la comunidad universitaria. Para lograr este meta se propuso una plataforma de software libre que responda a las demandas actuales de las unidades de información y que permita el cosechamiento de aquellas base de datos, que las unidades de información por sus compromisos con otras redes afines deban permanecer en determinada plataforma, pero que por ello no le impida participar en la RUIE creación y utilización de una plataforma común que albergue las bases de datos de todas las bibliotecas participantes de la RUIE. El proyecto inicia con la implementación del sistema integrado de gestión de bibliotecas llamado KOHA en 6 de las unidades de información de la RUIE, las unidades restantes tienen su propio software bajo licencia, las cuales compartirán sus bases mediante el cosechamiento de datos en la plataforma común de la RUIE. En cuanto a los logros alcanzados está el diseño del logo e imagen corporativa de la RUIE, 3 bibliotecas migradas en su totalidad al KOHA y las otras 3 en proceso de migración de las bases de datos. Se creó un reglamento debidamente aprobado por los miembros de la RUIE que está a la espera de su aprobación oficial por parte del Consejo Universitario. El diseño de la página web se culminó y está a la espera la programación de la misma por parte del Centro de Informática de la Universidad de Costa Rica.

ABSTRACT: There are Areas with Specialized Information at the University of Costa Rica; some with more than 35 years of existence. Of these Areas of Information, 10 are part of the Network of Specialized Libraries (RUIE) from which 3 are specialized libraries, 6 are documentation centers, and 1 virtual library. The general objective of this project is to consolidate and strengthen the Network of Areas of Specialized Information of the University of Costa Rica. This purpose is that on a same site each of the databases can be made visible in order to give an account of all the documentary resources existing in the various bodies of the university and be of service of the university community. To achieve this goal, the use of a free software platform was proposed that answers to the current demands of the areas of information and which allows the gathering of those database, that due to their commitments with other related networks, the information areas need to be on a certain platform, but this will not prevent them from participating in the RUIE creation and use of a common platform that hosts the databases of all participating libraries of the RUIE. The project starts with the implementation of the integrated management system of libraries called KOHA in 6 of the areas of information of the RUIE. The remaining areas have their own software license, which will share its bases by the gathering of data in the common platform of the RUIE. In terms of the achievements, the following are the design of the logo and corporate image of the RUIE, 3 libraries migrated in its entirety to the KOHA and the other 3 in the process of migration of the databases. A regulation was created duly approved by the RUIE members, which is awaiting official approval by the University Council. The design of the website was completed, and its programming by the Computer Center of the University of Costa Rica is pending.
