Itararé Group (Permo-carboniferous of the Paraná basin), Limeira and Piracicaba regions, state of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil: contribution to the lithofacies study

| dc.description | The Permian-Carboniferous Itararé Group is one complexe lithostratigraphic unit of the Paraná Basin, southeastern Brazil, typically marked by discontinuity of its lithofacies. Under the exploratory point of view, the unit represents one of the most significant intervals of the basin, since several occurrences of mineral and energetic resources are associated to it, as groundwater, petroleum and coal. The prospection and exploitation of these resources depend on a good understanding of the stratigraphic architecture and the paleogeography. There are many contributions on the specialized literature which deal with this subject, although the regions of Limeira and Piracicaba (superior portion of the unit) still lack new investigations, which may contribute to the understanding of its lithofacies and related sedimentary processes. It was analyzed the sedimentary sets pilling up, followed by stratigraphic correlations between the two regions. Moreover, from sedimentary structures, it was made paleocurrent measurement with the purpose of obtaining indicative patterns of the sedimentary polarity, contributing for the comprehension of the paleogeography. Recent studies in the Domo de Pitanga region (between Rio Claro and Piracicaba cities) and in the Corumbataí river drainage basin, were taken also as basis for possible correlations. It was obtained a frame of the lithofacies arrangement, their vertical and lateral relations, as well as their depositional polarities. | en-US |
| dc.description | O Grupo Itararé é uma unidade litoestratigráfica permo-carbonífera da Bacia do Paraná das mais complexas, quer do ponto de vista da diversidade dos processos geradores, quer da relação espacial, caracteristicamente marcada pela descontinuidade de suas litofácies constituintes. Vale ressaltar que, sob o ponto de vista exploratório, a unidade representa um dos intervalos mais importantes da bacia, pois a ela se associam diversas ocorrências de bens minerais e energéticos como água subterrânea, petróleo e carvão. A prospecção e explotação desses recursos dependem de um bom entendimento da arquitetura estratigráfica e da paleogeografia regional. Existem muitas contribuições na literatura especializada que tratam do tema, porém, na região de Limeira e Piracicaba, onde a unidade aflora em sua porção superior, ainda cabem novas investigações que podem contribuir para o entendimento dos processos geradores das litofácies desse grupo. Foi realizado o empilhamento dos conjuntos sedimentares, seguido de uma tentativa de correlação estratigráfica entre as duas regiões. Além disso, a partir de estruturas sedimentares foram efetuadas medidas de paleocorrentes com a intenção de se obter padrões indicativos de polaridade sedimentar, contribuindo, assim, para o entendimento da paleogeografia. Trabalhos recentes na região do Domo de Pitanga (entre as cidades de Rio Claro e Piracicaba) e na bacia hidrográfica do rio Corumbataí também serviram de base para as possíveis correlações. Como resultado, foi obtido um quadro das litofácies presentes, suas relações verticais e laterais, bem como seus processos geradores e sentidos deposicionais. | pt-BR |
