The sensory integration can be understood as a process by which the brain organizes sensory information from the body and the environment, allowing an appropriate adaptive answer. This theory, described by Jean Ayres in the 70's, is largely used in occupational therapy interventions with children who have different diagnoses. This study consists in a research review and its objective is to investigate if the current literature provides evidence of the consistent results of using the sensory integration therapy proposed by Ayres (1972). For this purpose, a search of publications was made on the subject in the last ten years. Seven articles were selected for composing the discussion of this study. The theory of sensory integration has been applied as was described by Ayres, what is important to ensure its efficacy, but the studies about this theory shows a diversity of instruments to evaluate and a varied sampling, that difficult to prove its effectiveness.
