Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder generally associated with impairments in functions related to coordination and balance, in addition to limitations associated with mobility and difficulty in planning and organizing movements. Poor social interaction and behavior problems are also frequent. These factors combined may result in reduced levels of physical exercise and consequently a more sedentary lifestyle. Knowing the importance of physical exercise for the development of children and adolescents, the present study aimed to conduct a literature review that seeks to identify the effects of physical exercise on the activity and participation of children and adolescents with ASD. A search was conducted in the main databases, combining terms related to autism, physical exercise, activity, and participation.471 articles were found and 12 were selected for the study. The results showed that physical exercise brings benefits to activityrelated outcomes, such as mobility, cognitive activities, and communication; to participation, including school participation and interpersonal relationships; and positive effects on body structure and function were also observed.
