Given the effects of technological disruption, mainly promoted by the insertion of automation in various sectors, various professions were impacted by changes, not unlike this technological revolution caused effects in accounting. With the aim of understanding the impact of technology on the accounting sector and its transformations in professional activity, as well as the students' view of the future of accounting, a questionnaire was applied to students of the Accounting Sciences course at the Federal University of Minas Gerais - UFMG , with the aim of analyzing their perspectives regarding the impacts of automation in the accounting sector and the necessary improvements for training professionals up to date with the contemporary and future scenario. This work was characterized as quantitative, having as methodology an exploratory research with the use of a questionnaire. It was concluded, in general, that UFMG Accounting students believe that automation will not replace the accounting profession; in addition, professionals must be constantly updated and thus prone to new opportunities in the market. However, it was also found that many students lack knowledge of some software that is highly widespread in accounting. Finally, the investigation made it possible to verify that the students' perception corroborates reality and that there is room for the insertion of knowledge about the automation provided by both the faculty and the academics.
