Mapping vocal effects and analysis ofthe relationships between lyrics, music and body expressions in the performance of Black is Beautiful (1971), by Paulo Sergio Valle (1940) and Marcos Valle (1943), performed in 1972by Elis Regina (1945-1982) in the German TV special 1 Plus, on Südwestfunks Channel in partnership with Globo. This study, which uses mAAVm (Method of Analysis of Audio and Music Videos) and its tools, describes and compares occurrences of word’smeanings in the poem (semantics and affectiveconnotations), vocal effects in sound spectrograms of eight vocal effects (portamento, vibrato, scoop, yodel, drive, fry, timbristic modulation and noisy breathing) and gestures (facial, head, torso and arms). The results reveal that the interpreter builthis performances based on meticulous planning, creating synchrony emphases and establishing clear relationships in the trinomial formed by text (or context), sounds and gestures.
