Knowing deeply the territory of a nation is an important step to achieve the national security’s maintenance and contribute to the country’s development. The first significant effort stemming from a survey performed within the Brazilian territory occurred in the middle of the military government and became known as the RADAM Project. Despite the project’s notoriety, relevance and broad-ranging, it has been scarcely discussed and researched by the academy. Thus, it is highlighted the importance of studies that contribute to the debate on the Brazilian territory, especially the Amazon. Moreover, the main objective of this work is an attempt of historical reconstruction of what the RADAM Project was, translated by experience reports and searches to primary sources. It is hoped that this research contribute to filling a gap found in the literature so far produced about the RADAM Project, while in which it was possible to describe the project, presenting its operation, report the unpublished episodes and check the scope of the project.
