The objective of this article is to discuss the relationship between income distribution and technological progress in the thinking of Nicholas Kaldor and Celso Furtado and, from this, to point out directions of a strategy of economic development to the Brazilian economy. For this, we initially argue that the Kaldorian model describes the development of central countries with endogenous technology, in which the level of inequality between workers andcapitalists is lower and productivity growth is higher. Furtado's thought, though close to Kaldor, explains the case of economies in the opposite situation, underdeveloped with technological exogenous to the economic system, according to which there would be a concentrated tendency of income and low productivity. Subsequently, it is argued for a development strategy that considers modernizing efforts and an industrial policy in sectors with real capacity to improve the living conditions of the Brazilian population more directly.
