dc.description.abstractThis thesis has as object of study the Tap Dance Technique, with the main objective of investigating the phenomenon of the installation and dissemination of American tap dance in the city of Belém (Pará State, Brazil), in a historiographical perspective, considering its insertion in several formations spaces of the city: from schools, to UFPA - Federal University of Pará and dynamizing its artistic scene of dance in scenic spectacles. I identify the precursors and developers of tap dance in this city and their performing and teaching places of this practice. I also present “Noite do Sapateado” (Tap Dance Night), an event created by me at the Marista School of Belém, in which it was possible to map the formal schools, dance schools and dance companies that worked with the tap dance. And finally, I present the tap dance teaching on the university facilities, which is offered through an extension project. The methodology used was based on a qualitative descriptive approach, having as theoretical support the knowledge of oral History, Anthropology, Art, education and tapping . In this sense, I elected some leading authors, among others, who dialogue with the theories described above. In the story, I use Arnaldo Alvarenga (2007), Giselle Moreira (2014), Verena Alberti (2003-2004), Holanda and Meihy (2018); in anthropology Roberto DaMatta (2010), Néstor Canclini (2010) and Viveiro de Castro (2009); in art, with regard to creative processes, Fayga Ostrower (2009); in the educational field of dance, Isabel Marques (2007-2010-2014); in tap dance; Machado and Nobre (2003), Lisa Lewis (2016), Cíntia Martin (2004) and Oliveira and Teixeira (2016). The research was based on the collected data, mainly through semi-structured free interviews from questionnaires and face-to-face interviews with teachers and developers of the tap dance, students and ex-students of the extension project UFPA Tap Dance Workshop and other artists involved. The analysis of the videos, photos and all graphic material such as newspapers, books, folders, banners and portfolios, as well as virtual materials, produced on the researched ones, corroborated the construction of this historiography. Finally I present the history of tap dancing in Belém, in the period of 1977 to 2019, according to the criterion established in this research.
