dc.description.abstract | INTRODUCTION: Injury to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) has a high prevalence, corresponding to about 50% of knee ligament injuries. Currently, when injured, the patient receives a proposal for surgical treatment. However, patients with ACL injury who underwent conservative treatment do not present significant proprioceptive deficits in relation to healthy patients. OBJECTIVE: Discuss surgical and conservative treatments in adult non-athlete individuals with total ACL rupture. METHODOLOGY: A bibliographic search on the topic was carried out, searching journals published between the 2010 to 2020 indexed in the following databases ScieLo, PEDro, Medline, Lilacs and Google academic, carried out from January to March 2020. RESULTS: 170 studies were found, including theses, literature reviews and scientific articles. However, according to the established inclusion and exclusion criteria, 156 articles that did not match the topic addressed were eliminated, thus leaving 14 articles. CONCLUSION: Currently, literature reports the possibility for both treatments, but in order to define which intervention to use, it is necessary to take into account important factors such as degree of laxity, time of injury, and functional activity performed by the patient in order to avoid new injuries and joint impairment. | |
