dc.description.abstract | La historia de la tuberculosis es tan antigua como la historia de la humanidad misma, es una de las patologías con mayor número de registros históricos. En los niños tiene una importante morbi-mortalidad, especialmente sus complicaciones, las cuales van de la mano con las manifestaciones iniciales de la enfermedad, siendo de interés la población pediátrica ya que en estos el impacto puede tener secuelas en su correcto desarrollo fisiológico.
Objetivo: Caracterizar clínica y socio-demográficamente los pacientes pediátricos con infección por Mycobacterium tuberculosis atendidos en una Empresa Social del Estado del Distrito de Barranquilla. Años 2015 al 2019.
Metodología: Se realizó un estudio de corte transversal de la población pediátrica que fue hospitalizada en una ESE Materno-Infantil de Barranquilla (Atl, CO). Se realizó una revisión de las historias clínicas y los datos de interés fueron acopiados en una base de datos, los datos se les realizó estadística descriptiva y las relaciones se realizaron mediante una prueba de Chi² (χ²).
Resultados: Se incluyeron 92 pacientes, con una edad promedio de 7.7±3.9 años. La proporción sexual fue de 52.2% Mujeres. Los escolares (6 – 11 años) fueron el grupo de mayor representatividad (48.9%). En cuanto al nivel educativo de los padres se encontró un alto porcentaje de ambos padres con un nivel educativo básico (primaria o bachillerato). El 78.3% de los pacientes tenían la vacuna BCG. El tipo de TB más frecuente fueron Tuberculosis pulmonar, confirmada por medios sin especificar (A153) y Tuberculosis intestinal, peritoneal y de glándulas mesentéricas (A18.3). Este tipo de TB (A153) fue más frecuente en las personas de origen rural.
Conclusión: La TB sigue teniendo una morbi-mortalidad importante, especialmente la del tipo respiratorio, pese al alto número de pacientes vacunados, nos esto evidencia la necesidad de desarrollar estrategias más eficientes para extender la vacunación incluso en las zonas rurales donde la accesibilidad está limitada. | |
