People who have been diagnosed with HIV positive often experience distress and anxiety due to uncertainties related to the implications of an HIV positive status. For this reason, individuals are often reluctant to seek advice and treatment due to fear of being rejected and discriminated against. There are limited formal networks for HIV support and psychological help. With this in mind, structured support groups were implemented for newly diagnosed HIV positive pregnant women. While some progress has been made in preventing new HIV infections and reducing the annual number of AIDS-related deaths, AIDS remains a major health priority as the number of people infected with HIV increases. . This reflects the combination of the effects of continued high rates of new infections. The impact of HIV and AIDS is multidimensional, since it affects both the individual and society; On an individual level, the implications of being HIV positive can be devastating as the individual is affected on all levels, namely socially, physically and psychologically. That also results in a unique impact on the health of the community as in most cases, the people who are infected and affected come from predominantly impoverished backgrounds. In relation to the social dimension, the people who contract the virus are mainly productive people
