dc.description.abstractPeru is the third largest country in South America with an area of 493,224 square miles (1,285,216 km2). It shares its borders with Ecuador and Colombia to the north, Brazil and Bolivia to the east, Chile to the south and is bordered on the west by a 1,450 milelong Pacific Ocean coastline, including a 200 miles-wide maritime zone (see Fig. 1).
