dc.description.abstractThe Coronavirus is a spherical virus with its crown appearance formed by glycoproteins on the envelope; It is characterized by the excessive production of inflammatory factors, which leads to an inflammatory storm, exerting multiorgan affections, causing diffuse pulmonary alveolar damage, myocardial inflammation, infiltration of lymphocytes in the liver and pancreatitis, damaging the beta cells of the islets of Langerhans causing a decrease in insulin and therefore an increase in blood glucose levels. The present study was descriptive and cross-sectional, the frequency of hyperglycemia was determined in patients with SARS-Cov-2, at the University Hospital of Rio, Cuenca 2020-2021, the universe and sample was comprised of patients with SAR-Cov-2 that have performed serum glucose determination; the data collected was analyzed in the Microsoft Excel and SPSS version 25 programs and through simple and crossed tables. The results obtained showed that, of 370 patients with SARS-Cov-2, 68.40% presented hyperglycemia, of which 50.1% presented hyperglycemia with values between 100-125 mg/dl, 49.9% hyperglycemia greater than or equal to 126 mg/dl, being predominant in patients from the eternal consultation area 46.24% in males 63.63% and older than 60 years 61.65%.
