dc.description.abstractBackground: Hypothyroidism is a pathology known since the end of the XV century. It is caused by different factors such as: absence or malfunction of the thyroid gland, related to the production of the different thyroid hormones, which are of vital importance for the physical and mental development of the individual. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of hypothyroidism in women between the ages of 20 and 40 who attended the CENTRO DE SALUD EL VALLE. January 2020 – December 2020. Methodology: A descriptive, retrospective study was carried out in women between 20 and 40 years of age who attended the “Centro de salud el Valle”, the period January 2020 - December 2020, with thyroid profile; descriptive statistics were used in the results: mode, mean, standard deviation, which are quantitative variables. In accordance with the objectives of our research, the data were codified by means of a collection form that used cross-referencing nominal, qualitative and quantitative variables. Results: A total of 133 results of thyroid profile in female patients were studied, with an average age of 33 years; within the descriptive statistics, the 92 (69%) cases present hypothyroidism, 43,4% are obese, 92,3% are in the rural sector, and 7,7% in the urban area. Conclusions: The prevalence was 69% according to the number of cases studied, the main age group was 36 - 40 years old, most of them belonging to rural areas. Hypothyroidism is present in greater proportion in overweight and obese women with percentages of 37% and 43,4% respectively.
