dc.description.abstractBackground: the impact of alcohol consumption on nutritional status is a situationthat requires urgent attention. paho describes that alcohol is the most common risk factor in the development of chronic noncommunicable diseases in countries of the americas. in addition, several studies directly relate alcoholism to alterations in nutritional status, such as malnutrition, overweight and obesity. Objective: to determine the influence of alcoholism on the nutritional status of theinmates of the exitus rehabilitation center of the city of cuenca, according to the length of sobriety. Methodology: the study is based on a quantitative approach and corresponds to a retrospective type of research with non-probabilistic sampling. The age, weight, height, BMI, biochemical and hematological data in the medical records of patients seen between 2014 and 2022 were reviewed. These were analyzed with the statistical program Epidat 4.2, using frequency tables and percentages. Results: nutritional status was determined by BMI, at the time of admission to the rehabilitation center, 40.9% of participants were overweight, 16.6% with type I obesity,3% underweight, and only 37.8% with normal nutritional status. While at discharge, after at least 2 months, 28.7% overweight, 13.6% Obesity type I, 9% underweight andnormal nutritional status amounted to 46.9%. Conclusions: 66 inmates of the Exitus Rehabilitation Center participated in the study. The research findings indicate that there is a positive change in the nutritional status of people addicted to alcohol
