dc.description.abstractHypertension is a multifactorial disease that causes high mortality rates worldwide, mainly from adulthood. Adherence to treatment and lifestyle are influential factors in the adaptation of the person with respect to their clinical condition and self-care. Objective: To determine the level of adherence to antihypertensive treatment and self-care in adults aged 35 to 64 years, attended at the Nicanor Merchán Health Center, Cuenca 2022-2023. Quantitative study with observational, descriptive cross-sectional design. Universe consisting of 182 patients with sampling of 124; sociodemographic variables to be analyzed: sex, age, level of education, marital status and residence. Instruments to be used were: Treatment Adherence Questionnaire for Patients with Hypertension, Morisky-Green-Levine test and Self-Care Agency Rating Scale; the data obtained were analyzed by tabulation with the IBM SPSS version 25.0 program. In the population studied, the majority were female, aged between 57 and 64 years, low level of academic education, married and residing in urban areas. The level of adherence to non- pharmacological treatment according to TAQPH was 77.4%; MMAS-8 reflected a high level of adherence to pharmacological treatment with 46 % and ASA showed that 72.6% of the population studied has a high capacity for self-care. It was evidenced that the population with hypertension attended at the Nicanor Merchán Health Center in the city of Cuenca presented high adherence to pharmacological and non- pharmacological treatment and a high level of self-care.
