dc.description.abstract | Background: The anatomical variants of the circle of Willis are usually detected as findings in imaging studies such as Angio-CT or Angio-MRI within an assessment of vascular obstructions, stenosis, aneurysms, etc. The Willis circle of classic morphology is considered normal, however, its presence in patients does not exceed 20-25%.
Objectives: to determine the frequency of anatomical variants through the analysis and interpretation of the MEDIMAGEN-Cuenca database, of patients who have undergone cerebral CT angiography during the 2018-2020 period.
Methods: a descriptive, retrospective - cross-sectional investigation was carried out, where the data of the radiological reports of patients who attended the "MEDIMAGEN" diagnostic imaging center to undergo an Angio-CT of the skull during the period 2018 - 2020 were collected. The data collection was based on
the established form. The data was processed, tabulated and analyzed in the SPSS program.
Results: it was possible to identify that the frequency of cerebral vascular anatomical variants diagnosed by cerebral Angio-CT is 72%, it was evidenced that the most frequent type of anatomical variant is hypoplasia with 64% followed by persistence of fetal circulation with 9%, the largest number of anatomical variants
of the patients analyzed occurred in the Right Anterior Cerebral Artery with 27%; the location of the topographical anatomical alteration is more common on the right side with 51.4%; however, the left side has a similar percentage 48.6%.
Conclusions: The frequency of anatomical variants was high, the most frequent type of anatomical variant is hypoplasia, both in men and women, the anatomical variants were presented in similar percentages. | |
