Motivation is understood as an energy that carries direction, purpose or goal, which is embodied by intentions and outcomes. The Theory Self-Determination considers that motivation is presented in 7 dimensions: Intrinsic Motivation to knowledge, to achievement, to stimulating experiences, extrinsic motivation, identified regulation, introjected regulation, external regulation and amotivation; for this reason, the objective considered by the study was to identify the dimensions of motivation towards sports practice presented by people with visual impairment belonging to the clubs of the Ecuadorian Federation of Sports for People with Visual Impairment (FEDEDIV). The research was approached from a quantitative approach with a non-experimental cross-sectional design with a descriptive scope. The chosen population consisted of 438 people with visual impairment who practice sports and belong to the FEDEDEDIV, from which a non- probabilistic sample of 88 individuals was chosen. This sample was made up of members of seven clubs distributed in four provinces: El Oro, Guayas, Loja and Azuay. Subsequently, two instruments were administered for the collection of information: the socio-demographic questionnaire and the sport motivation scale (SMS-28). These instruments allowed us to obtain results in which the sample reflects having different dimensions of motivation, with a majority tendency to predominate the type of motivation intrinsic to knowledge, intrinsic motivation to achievement and intrinsic motivation to stimulating experiences. It is concluded that there are not major differences in intrinsic motivation between women and men. Likewise, the stages of development have a significant impact on the predominant type of motivation, evolving from extrinsic motivation during adolescence to intrinsic motivation during late adulthood. On the other hand, there is a lack of studies that provide comparisons with the following variables: years of sport practice, sport disciplines, provinces of Ecuador and type of disability.
