Diseño de residencia estudiantil articulado a programa de vivienda universitaria: caso Universidad de Cuenca

Abstract

This work emerged from a current problem in which the city of Cuenca is affected by the increase of students in university institutions. Currently, one out of every four students is a foreigner, which is taken advantage of by local residents of the immediate context of the university premises to create places of improvised student residence. The University of Cuenca proposed a housing program to cater for the housing demand in the city, however, in order to improve the program, this research aims to analyze a housing design for the resolution of a preliminary architectural project for a student residence. For the analysis, parameters such as typology, area, location, cost, number of rooms and basic services were established. Parameters were determined by a subsequent empirical data collection in order to enhance the information through surveys, in which a certain number of questions and a target population were incorporated. Likewise, case studies were analyzed to search for determinants. In like manner, a plot was found based on the basic needs of mobility, security, location, and nearby equipment. Finally, the architectural blueprint for the 153-student residence was resolved, taking into account the needs of the different analyses.
