dc.description.abstract | The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the public space of cities
worldwide, so that they have been restricted for their users, which
directly affected merchants who work in these spaces and people who
transit and go to these squares as a escape point to those limited
spaces in their homes.
The objective of this degree work was to develop a proposal for an
urban architectural intervention in the Santa Ana and Las Flores
squares, where four phases of analysis were proposed.
In the first, a theoretical basis was developed that contemplates
general concepts such as public space and simplifies them to more
specific ones, that is, the squares that carry out a commercial activity
in a historical context and how they developed during the pandemic.
In the second, the analysis of different case studies that provide
information about the adaptations in terms of architecture and
guidelines that shopping malls around the world have taken.
In the third, the development of the diagnostic phase of the study
places, which resulted in an approach to the current state of said
spaces and those actions they took to promote their activities. Finally,
in the last phase, general design guidelines were proposed that
contributed to the final proposal for each of the study places.
This research concludes that the squares do not have an adequate
distribution of their space, which has caused their inactivity during the
highest peak of the pandemic, and that after it the biosecurity measures
have had a low impact on the activities of the plazas. | |
