The objective of this article is to evaluate the feasibility of micro electric generation using a hydrokinetic turbine in the Portoviejo, Cañar and Chanchán rivers. The vertical axis GORLOV type turbine was chosen as the most suitable; With the advantage that it can be used in shallow rivers with a flow speed of 0.60 to 2.5 m/s, field work carried out to determine the flow speed of the river current by the float method. Works and research articles on Gorlov turbines were reviewed to verify the behavior, structure and designs of this type of turbines according to the construction parameters with the river parameters obtained in the field tests, to then make the graphs and evaluate using the algorithm of MatLab. The feasibility of using the aforementioned rivers the generation of low-power electrical energy for the populations adjacent to the rivers was investigated.
