dc.descriptionEste artículo examina el Congreso Penitenciario Nacional de 1914 promovido por expertos y funcionarios abocados a la cuestión criminal. Este evento articuló las ansiedades que generaba el delito y la delincuencia, con la producción de una agenda de reforma penal y penitenciaria a nivel local. Busca comprender cómo estas preocupaciones devinieron motivo de discusión pública, en particular en la prensa, que contribuyó a visibilizar esos intereses de los expertos por la reforma penal y penitenciaria e inclusive terciaron en la reflexión con una voz propia. En consecuencia, demuestra que la fortaleza de este Congreso radicó, por una parte, en potenciar esa producción de saberes expertos, y por otra, en que, más allá de los ámbitos académicos y oficiales, en la mirada inquisitiva de la prensa. A través de ella, los ecos de estas discusiones y planteos se hacían audibles a un público amplio, en un contexto particularmente sensible a los problemas sociales y a la necesidad de una genuina reforma política.es-ES
dc.descriptionThis article examines the National Penitentiary Congress of 1914 promoted by experts and officials dedicated to the criminal question. This event articulated the anxieties generated by crime and delinquency, with the elaboration of a penal and penitentiary reform agenda at the local level. It seeks to understand how these concerns became the subject of public discussion, particularly in the press, which contributed to make visible those concerns of the experts for the penal and penitentiary reform and even intervened in the reflection with their own voice. Consequently, it shows that the strength of this Congress lay, on the one hand, in enhancing that production of expert knowledge, and on the other, in that, beyond the academic and official spheres, in the inquisitive gaze of the press. Through it, the echoes of these discussions and proposals were made audible to a wide audience, in a context particularly sensitive to social problems and the need for genuine political reform.en-US
