dc.description This article argues that the translation of texts written by women in the Anglophone and Span­ish-speaking Caribbean literary field has the potential of being transformative when carried out from the perspective of postcolonial translation and feminist translation. The social and ethical responsi­bility of resisting homogenizing translation strategies that erase linguistic and cultural differences, and thus produce stereotyped and neocolonial constructions of the archipelago present in normative translation is foregrounded. The article revolves around how this translation perspective is displayed in our translation of the bilingual anthology of contemporary Caribbean women poets The Sea Needs No Ornament / El mar no necesita ornamento (2020). As editors and translators, we seek to contribute to favouring and boosting the dialogue —within and beyond the archipelagic region— between women writers and their readers, who are separated by geography and language barriers but often impacted by shared global histories and the urgencies of the contemporary moment. To illustrate our perspec­tive, the article focuses on three aspects which prove revealing of our collaborative translation prac­tise: translating the linguistic gender, translating Creole and translating vocabulary.en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo defiende que la traducción de obras escritas por mujeres en el campo literario del Caribe anglófono y de habla hispana puede ser transformativa si se lleva a cabo desde la perspectiva de la traducción postcolonial y la traducción feminista. Se subraya la responsabilidad social y ética de resistir estrategias traductológicas homogeneizadoras que borren diferencias lingüísticas y culturales y, por tanto, ofrezcan construcciones estereotipadas y neocolonialistas del archipiélago, propias de la traducción normativa. El artículo se centra en cómo esta perspectiva traductológica se refleja en nuestra traducción de la antología bilingüe de poetas contemporáneas del Caribe The Sea Needs No Ornament / El mar no necesita ornamento (2020). Como editoras y traductoras de la antología, preten­demos favorecer e impulsar el diálogo —dentro de la región archipelágica y más allá de ella— entre es­critoras y lectoras y lectores separadas por la geografía y las barreras lingüísticas, y, sin embargo, que se hayan afectadas por contextos históricos y problemáticas acuciantes similares. Para ilustrar nuestra perspectiva, el artículo se ocupa de tres aspectos reveladores de nuestra praxis traductiva colaborativa: la traducción del género lingüístico, la traducción del criollo y la traducción del léxico.es-ES

On soulignera la responsa­bilité sociale et éthique de résister aux stratégies de traduction homogénéisantes qui effacent les dif­férences linguistiques et culturelles et, qui offrent, par conséquent, des constructions stéréotypées et néocolonialistes de l’archipel typiques de la traduction normative. L’article se concentre sur la façon dont cette perspective de traduction se reflète dans notre traduction de l’anthologie The Sea Needs No Ornament: / El mar no necesita ornamento (2020). En tant qu’éditrices et traductrices, nous cherchons à promouvoir et à dynamiser le dialogue —à l’intérieur et au-delà de la région archipélagique— entre les femmes écrivaines et leurs lecteurs et lectrices, qui sont séparés par des barrières géographiques et linguistiques mais qui sont souvent affectés par des histoires mondiales partagées et l’urgence du moment contemporain.
