dc.description.abstractMathematics is present in many aspects of life related to other sciences as biology, chemistry and physics, contributing to situation analysis and decision making in solving various situations. This work has as its theme the teaching-learning quadratic function through mathematical modeling. And it addresses the understanding of the function in the oblique launch of a rocket water. We developed a practical activity that has been applied with the 1st year high school students in a private school of Porto Alegre aiming to show how physics and mathematics are applied in reality and how mathematical models are structured. In this research we propose a script which used a film of the rocket launch. With use of the Tracker software, students analyzed the coordinated launch points and developed mathematical models.
