dc.description.abstractThe aim of this study is to describe and analyze the changes in the conceptions of work, from the point of view of working women who live in a urban popular suburb in the area of Greater Porto Alegre. The discussion running parallel to the entire research is centered on the elaboration of the concept of work that these women do in their individual histories. Three women from Vila Pedreira who represent a section of inhabitants of that community with expressive social involvement, participated in the research. The collection of data for this analysis has its origin in the accounts of the life histories of these three women. The accounts have work as their common thematic line. The study and research were accompanied by readings from Hanna Arendt, where we went deeper into the concepts of the human conditions, which she names labor, work and action.
