The Brazilian Sustainable Urban Mobility Policy is based on encouraging walking, walking around the city, but only in open public spaces, such as sidewalks. The theme of the present research is to study criteria for the evaluation of external and internal walkability in municipal public markets, focusing on the Public Market of Porto Alegre (MPPoa), in RS. For this reason, both its accesses and its internal circulations were included, integrating them with the sidewalks of its urban surroundings. Simultaneously, it was proposed to improve methodologies that help in mapping the quality of urban spaces for pedestrians, with the objective of identifying priority sectors that can be intervened. Through bibliographic research, involving the conditions of the sidewalks and the urban socio-spatial morphology, a theoretical foundation was sought for the inclusion of the concept proposed here of 'internal walkability'. In addition to the factors that influence decisions in this mobility – and its possible interconnection with external walkability. Methodologically, to verify the level of service of sidewalks, in the urban area researched, the iCam 2.0 (ITDP, 2018) walkability index was used, and, for the analysis of its spatial configuration, the Space Syntax (SE) and its measures were used. syntax (HILLIER, 1993). The result sought and achieved in the research was to create and establish this new concept of “indoor walkability”. This proves the interconnection between the movement of people internally and externally in a private facility for public use such as the MPPoa, where its 'internal sidewalks' are a natural continuity of the surrounding walkways, interconnecting them.
