dc.description.abstractThe inclusion of people with disabilities in the labor market is a challenge for businesses and also for people with disabilities. After centuries of segregation, people with disabilities were challenged by companies to comply with a legal order. The Quotas Law, which imposes on companies with more than hundred employees the obligation to hire a percentage of employees with disabilities, created a demand for this workforce and made companies adapt to receive these employees. This obligation reaches all companies that fit the requirement more than one hundred employees, regardless of the segment in which they operate. The present study sought to understand how the process of inclusion of people with disabilities occurs in the Community Higher Education Institutions of Rio Grande do Sul. The research field was restricted to those Institutions located in Greater Porto Alegre and affiliated to the Consortium of the Community University of Gaúches (COMUNG). In order to reach the objectives, it was decided to carry out an exploratory study, through semi-structured interviews applied in each of the five participating institutions. The perception of the supervisory authority of the Quotas Law was still sought through an interview with an audit from the Ministry of Labor and Employment. After analyzing the material collected in conjunction with the theoretical reference and the practical experience of this researcher, the barriers that hinder the inclusion process in this segment and the proposed improvements to make the process more effective were listed.
