The burden of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in health statistics, in terms of mortality, morbidity and financial costs for the health system, is already the center of intense and long-standing study and discussion in the world scenario of scientific research. They ranked first in terms of years of life lost due to premature death in the group of non-communicable diseases, and of this group, ischemic heart diseases and cerebrovascular diseases are the two leading causes of years of life lost (Schramm et al. al., 2004). Within ischemic heart diseases, the term Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) is used to describe cardiac events of sudden myocardial ischemia, such as unstable angina and myocardial infarction, which are characterized by high lethality and significant morbidity (Pitsavos et al., 2008; Overbaugh, 2009). The group of cerebrovascular diseases includes transient ischemic attack and stroke, characterized by focal neurological disorders of vascular etiology (Carandang et al., 2006).
