The origin of this thesis is based on the analysis of the setting up of the educational project for the Polytechnic high school in Rio Grande do Sul, started in 2011. It discusses the (mis)conceptions in the process of that proposal implementation, concerning the scenario of young people’s uncertainties facing the possibility for them to be inserted into the universe of work. The State project put up some interdisciplinarity among different fields of knowledge: Humanities, Natural Sciences, Languages, Mathematics and its technologies, emphasizing the inquisitive practice as well as emancipatory assessment. The guiding inquiring issue sought to identify the contradictions in relation to how and under what circumstances the polytechnic project was set up in two State schools, located in different cities of the metropolitan area of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. This study, of a dialectic type, assumed methodologically the totality as the category which forced the power relationship from macro to micro space and vice versa. For the interpretive process, the content analysis, based on three categories: the contradiction translated by (mis)conceptions, totality and hegemony. Among the top search results, some (mis)conceptions are highlighted: insufficient time for managers and teacher’s formation; the requirement of quality education and undervaluation of education professionals; the expansion of working hours, shortage of teachers, and the conflicting schedules of students themselves; the fragile interdisciplinary in the Integrated Seminar; the power struggles and failing to understand the theoretical reference, specifically, the conception of polytechnic and emancipatory assessment; the contradiction in taking on a Polytechnic high school proposal in a capitalist State.
