In the current global economic environment, where markets are realigning and companies are seeking new ways to face their challenges, with large cost cuts, the greater control of the relationship between sales and stock can become a differentiating element to all enterprises, of any industry. Thus the Sales and Operations Planning ( Sales & Operations Planning [ S & OP ] ) aims to achieve excellence in balancing supply and demand in company, providing a better control of these internal operations, in relation to the customer expectations of the plans, which enables the increasing on sales and profitability of the business. In the US companies the S&OP is well widespread, though it is still not much known and used in Brazil. Facing the scarcity of Brazilian literature on the subject of application impacts of S&OP on companies in the retail industry. This study aims to determine the possibility of using the S & OP on retails, as opposed to traditional methods that use the shopping budget base stock management. This was a bibliographic review of the literature consulted in books and articles selected from the search databases: Scielo [ 1 ] and Journals Portal CAPES [ 2 ] . When analyzing the literature about the retail stock management and S & OP , it seems that the Sales and Operations Planning (S & OP ) can be applied to retail stock management, however, such na implementation requires adjustments to be made in a five-step set up of the S & OP monthly process.
