dc.description.abstract | In this research work we have set out to identify opportunistic pathogens that attack immunocompromised patients aged 30 to 40 years by performing lumbar puncture to detect the disease they produce. To carry out the respective analysis, we have consulted medical records both in physical and digital media of patients with inclusion and exclusion criteria within the hospital. Between the years 2018-2020, the total sample of HIV patients with opportunistic infections was 450 patients, 428 male and 22 female. There was a prevalence of toxoplasmosis of 29%, cryptococcosis of 18%, 14% of histoplasmosis. The remaining 39% suffer from other unstudied opportunistic diseases. We conclude that lumbar puncture serves effectively and quickly to detect opportunistic infections in patients with HIV, but that it is not applied early in the hospital, but rather as a diagnostic method of last option.
