the gingival margin, below the cemental amellar limit. To be able to identify it we must
know its characteristics and then indicate the treatment based on the diagnosis. Problem:
Gingival recession occurs frequently in dental practice and the diagnosis and management
is poorly understood. So, it is overlooked, bringing more serious consequences, up to the
tooth loss. Objective: Establish the diagnosis and treatment according to the
characteristics of gingival recessions. Materials and Methods: In the present study, a
descriptive, documentary and retrospective systematic review of the deductive method
was carried out, with the collection of scientific articles in English and Spanish in the
search engines: Pubmed, Google Scholar, Scielo and Periodontology 2000. Results: This
review establishes that a complete diagnosis includes: determine the etiology of the
disease, giving it a differential diagnosis and classifying it to establish a non-surgical or
surgical diagnosis from here. Conclusion: Knowing how to diagnose gingival recession
will allow it to be detected early, reducing future risks and being able to be controlled with
minimally invasive treatments
