dc.description.abstract | The aim of this work was to characterize biochemically exopolysaccharides produced from a microalgal association. We found 10 genera between cyanobacteria and microalgae, being the most abundant Synechococcus sp. The best cultivation conditions for the production of biomass and exopolysaccharide were the following; BG11-75% culture medium in 27 days and 12-12 photoperiod with an average total biomass of 1.08 ± 0.03 g∙ L-1 and for exopolysaccharides it was the BG11 + 0.75 glucose culture medium during 30 days and light-dark photoperiod 12-12 with constant aeration. A wet weight of 4.10 ± 0.16 g ∙ L-1 and dry weight of 0.19 ± 0.007 g ∙L-1 were obtained, both tests were at 25 ± 2 °C. The presence of calcium and iron were the following: 26 ± 0.78 mg∙ L-1 and 0.97 ± 0.02 mg∙ L-1 , respectively. The HPLC analysis showed that the microalgal consortium is composed of main groups of carbohydrates, with galactose being the highest concentration with 29.82% and galacturonic acid having the lowest concentration with 20.77%.
