The importance of ludic activities to develop the speaking skill

Abstract

The present thesis project aims to demonstrate the importance of ludic activities in the development of one of the most important skills for ESL learners which is the oral expression. The participants, who are also the main beneficiaries of this research, are the students of 8th grade Classroom “B” at Vicente Rocafuerte Public High School. The data presented in this study was not obtained randomly since it would have not been the correct manner to proceed. For that reason, several instruments of the investigation were applied such as the interview for the teacher, the survey for the students and the observation phase which required the utilization of an observation guide to registering the data. Through the collected data, it was confirmed the presence of a problem in the manner speaking skills were developed inside the classroom which led the author of this research to find out a possible solution to overcome the deficiencies in the development of speaking skills. Resulting in the design of a booklet with ludic activities to improve the speaking skill which will allow students and to improve their speaking skills by performing dynamic activities that mainly require the interaction between them. Thus, they will feel comfortable and encouraged to participate in these activities

El presente proyecto de tesis tiene como objetivo demostrar el impacto de las actividades lúdicas en el desarrollo de una de las habilidades más importantes para los estudiantes de inglés como lo es la expresión oral. Los participantes, que también son los principales beneficiarios de esta investigación, son los alumnos del 8º grado en el Aula "B" del Colegio Fiscal Vicente Rocafuerte. Los datos presentados en este estudio no se obtuvieron al azar, ya que no habría sido la forma correcta de proceder. Por esa razón, se aplicaron varios instrumentos de la investigación, como la entrevista para el maestro, la encuesta para los estudiantes y la fase de observación que requirió la utilización de una guía de observación para registrar los datos. A través de los datos recopilados, se confirmó la presencia de un problema en la forma en que se desarrollaron las habilidades para hablar dentro del aula, lo que llevó al autor de esta investigación a encontrar una posible solución para superar las deficiencias en el desarrollo de las habilidades para hablar. Resultando en el diseño de un folleto con actividades lúdicas para mejorar la habilidad de hablar que permitirá a los estudiantes mejorar sus habilidades de habla, realizando actividades dinámicas que requieren principalmente la interacción entre ellos. Por lo tanto, se sentirán cómodos y animados a participar en estas actividades.
