La explotación minera y su incidencia en el nivel socioeconómico de los habitantes del cantón Zaruma, provincia de El Oro. período 2012-2016

Abstract

El objetivo principal de ésta investigación es analizar la explotación minera y su incidencia en el nivel socioeconómico de los habitantes del cantón Zaruma, provincia de El Oro. La información se la obtuvo utilizando instrumentos como encuestas, entrevistas, observación directa, revisión documental e información estadística. Además a través del análisis y síntesis se evidenció la situación real de la minería en la zona y la serie de problemas que ha ocasionado en la población, como el derrumbe de edificios pertenecientes a su patrimonio histórico, por el cual la ciudad se encuentra nominada ante la UNESCO para ser patrimonio mundial de la Humanidad. Además se ha evidenciado la contaminación de las fuentes hídricas por la presencia de mercurio y arsénico, sustancias prohibidas por su toxicidad pero ampliamente utilizadas en la minería artesanal o informal, y la gran dependencia que el cantón tiene sobre la actividad minera. Los resultados obtenidos permiten constatar que si bien la minería efectuada en Zaruma ha generado ingresos para el Estado, sin embargo estos no se han revertido en la zona y más bien pone en peligro el desarrollo de otro sector que puede contribuir en el cambio de su matriz productiva como es el turismo.

The main objective of this research is to analyze the mining exploitation and its incidence in the socioeconomic level of the inhabitants of Zaruma canton, province of El Oro. The information was obtained using instruments such as surveys, interviews, direct observation, documentary review and statistical information. . In addition, through analysis and synthesis, the real situation of mining in the area and the series of problems it has caused in the population, such as the collapse of buildings belonging to its historical heritage, for which the city is nominated before UNESCO to be World Heritage of Humanity. In addition, the contamination of water sources has been evidenced by the presence of mercury and arsenic, substances that are banned due to their toxicity but widely used in artisanal or informal mining, and the great dependence that the canton has on mining activity. The obtained results allow to verify that although the mining carried out in Zaruma has generated income for the State, nevertheless these have not been reverted in the zone and rather it puts in danger the development of another sector that can contribute in the change of its matrix productive as is tourism.
