Gestión Ambiental de Manejo de Desechos del Hospital Teófilo Dávila del Cantón Machala

Abstract

El inadecuado manejo de desechos hospitalarios es una gran problemática, como fuente de contaminación para el ambiente y afectaciones a la salud de los seres humanos. La presente investigación tiene como objetivo elaborar el Plan de Gestión Integral de Desechos para el Hospital Teófilo Dávila de Machala, estableciendo los tipos de desechos hospitalarios y su manejo; la metodología consistió en la recopilación de la información a través de encuestas, evidencias fotográficas para establecer los desechos hospitalarios y demostrar la problemática y la actual gestión de los mismos, posteriormente se analizó los datos obtenidos en el pesaje de los desechos que se registraron diariamente durante los meses de enero a marzo, obteniendo así un promedio mensual, trimestral y finalmente un promedio anual de la generación de desechos en este hospital. Los resultados obtenidos indicaron que Anualmente el promedio de desechos que genera el hospital en total es de 182529.24 Kg, es decir 18252.92 Tn, manifestándose dentro de este estudio los tres más importantes desechos hospitalarios que son: infecciosos, corto-punzantes y especiales. Finalmente se concluye que el área de estudio es un importante generador de desechos peligrosos, por consiguiente se propuso un plan de gestión integral de desechos tomando en consideración, las leyes vigentes del país, para aquellos puntos que representan un problema en el manejo de desechos.

Inadequate management of hospital waste is a major problem, as a source of pollution for the environment and affects the health of humans. The present research aims to elaborate the Integral Waste Management Plan for the Machala´s Hospital Teófilo Dávila, establishing the types of hospital wastes and their management; The methodology consisted in the collection of the information through surveys, photographic evidences to establish the hospital waste and to demonstrate the problematic and the current management of the same, later the data obtained in the weighing of the wastes that were recorded daily during The months of January to March, obtaining a monthly average, quarterly and finally an annual average of waste generation in this hospital. The results obtained indicated that the average annual waste generated by the hospital is 182529.24 kg, same as 18252.92 Tn. The three most important hospital wastes that are infectious, short-stabbing and special are shown in this study. Finally, it is concluded that the study area is an important generator of hazardous waste, therefore a comprehensive waste management plan was proposed, taking into account, the current laws of the country, for those points that represent a problem in waste management.
