dc.descriptionThis text refers to the origin of the term epistemology, which relates to the theory of scientific knowledge. The issue focuses on the development of modern science and, particularly, on the crisis of basic concepts in the early twentieth century. This meant that speculative philosophy was no longer able to account for contemporary scientific conceptualizations and theories. As the century drew on, the most outstanding empiricists also had to admit their failure. The rejection of aprioristic and empiricist positions resulted in the need to understand knowledge as a constructive process which evolves, at the individual level, from birth to adult age, and extends to the social level through scientific development.en-US
dc.descriptionEste texto señala el origen del término epistemología, referido a la teoría del conocimiento científico. El tema está centrado en el desarrollo de la ciencia moderna y en particular en la crisis de los conceptos básicos a comienzos del siglo XX. Esto significó el fin de la filosofía especulativa en su capacidad para dar cuenta de las conceptualizaciones y de las teorías de la ciencia contemporánea. Al avanzar el siglo, también los más destacados empiristas debieron admitir su fracaso. La renuncia a las posiciones aprioristas y empiristas llevó a la necesidad de concebir el conocimiento como un proceso constructivo que al nivel individual se desarrolla desde el nacimiento hasta la edad adulta, y se prolonga al nivel social con el desarrollo de la ciencia.es-ES
