Successful treatment with aligners involves much more than the virtual planning; mechanical knowledge is also needed. Common mechanical knowledge acquired with conventional orthodontics with fixed appliance is not enough to fully understand aligner mechanics, specially with attachments. Their use is mandatory in challenging movements, such as extrusion. The design of the attachment that will be used plays an important role in aligner adaptation and, combined with the adequate amount of activation, allows predictable treatment with aligners.
