The expansion of educational possibilities through the distance modality requires, in the creation, organization and implementation phases, a multidisciplinary team involved in the definition of learning strategies, based on an instructional design project. In this process, the theories of learning styles can be considered. This paper discusses some learning styles in light of the theoretical conceptions of several authors and relates them to alternatives that can be used in the process of creating distance learning courses. In methodological terms, bibliographic and documental analyzes were used. It was observed that it is possible to use knowledge about learning styles to define the elements that can make up the courses, improving the interaction of students with each other, with the learning environment and with the content, which may mitigate problems such as demotivation and evasion.
