The article is the result of the master's research From space to place: contributions to the organization of spaces for infants and young children, linked to the Postgraduate Program in Education of FCT / UNESP of Presidente Prudente / SP. We consider space a curricular element, with a strong educational potential and protagonist in what concerns the pedagogical practice and the development of the child. In the research we present the concepts of space, environment and place from the phenomenological perspective. We emphasize that space is constituted by the physical structure. The environment is composed of the fusion between the space and the relations established in its interior and the place is understood as the space / environment permeated by the affections and the identification of the subject with the same, attributing it value through the affective link. We focus on understanding how spaces can be organized in a way that can act as a potential promoter of quality in the education of infants and young children. This article aims to discuss how the organization of spaces is approached in official Brazilian documents. From the qualitative research of the documentary type, we analyzed documents of the Early Childhood Education, seeking to identify how the organization of the spaces is portrayed. We verified that in the documents the organization of the space is approached on a recurring basis, with emphasis on physical, structural and relational characteristics. We realized that the need to organize the space is not a recent concern / orientation and that the documents offer theoretical subsidies for structuring the space / quality environment in the institutions.
