Mapping of the Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) and its Current Use and Occupation in the Municipality of Paulínia (SP)

dc.descriptionThe objective of the work was to map and study land use and occupation in the Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) in the municipality of Paulínia (SP). This municipality holds many industries, specially petrochemical, and shows, in the last years, a considerable urban and population growth when compared to the other municipalities of the Metropolitan Region of Campinas, which may lead to inadequate land use and occupation of the permanent preservation areas. The PPAs were mapped using the GIS ArcGIS 9.3, according to the dimensions established by the current legislation (Law 4.771/65 and CONAMA Resolution 302 and 303/02) and using a digital cartographic base map, scale 1:10,000, from the Cartographic Geographic Institute (2002). Among the possible categories of PPAs found in the legislation, in Paulínia only PPAs resulting from the presence of water bodies and springs were indentified, while other categories were absent. The PPAs represent 11.64 km² (8.37%) of the total area of the municipality (139 km²). The mapping of the land use and occupation in the PPAs was accomplished through the interpretation of a ALOS/PRISM orbital image from 2009, followed by in-site checking. It was verified that in 8.15 km² (70.02%) of the PPAs the occupation is in agreement with the legislation, while in 3.49 km² (29.98%) it is in disagreementen-US
dc.descriptionO objetivo do trabalho foi mapear e estudar a situação de uso e ocupação da terra nas Áreas de Preservação Permanente (APPs) no município de Paulínia (SP). Este município abriga diversas indústrias, principalmente do ramo petroquímico, e apresenta, nos últimos anos, um significativo crescimento urbano e populacional comparado aos outros municípios da Região Metropolitana de Campinas, podendo levar a um uso e ocupação indevidos das áreas de preservação permanente. As APPs foram mapeadas utilizando o SIG ArcGIS 9.3, considerando-se os limites determinados pela legislação vigente (Lei 4.771/65 e Resoluções CONAMA 302 e 303/02) e utilizando uma base cartográfica digital, em escala 1:10.000, do Instituto Geográfico Cartográfico (2002). Dentre as categorias possíveis de APPs constantes na legislação, em Paulínia foram identificadas somente APPs resultantes da presença de corpos d'água e nascentes, não existindo outros enquadramentos. As APPs compreendem 11,64 km² (8,37%) da área total do município (139 km²). O mapeamento do uso e ocupação da terra nas APPs foi realizado através da interpretação de uma imagem orbital do satélite ALOS/PRISM de 2009, seguida de verificação em campo.
