The analytic simulation model of exploitation of the Beberibe Aquifer, in the Olinda-Igarassu area, Pernambuco, was elaborated on the basis of the SIMAQ computer program of Gaytan and França. The hydrogeological scheme adopted took into consideration a semi-confined aquifer (sandstones of the Inferior Beberibe Formation) limited at the basis by the impermeabie crystalline basement, and limited at the top by an "aquitard" (shale). It was considered an aquifer with its recharge limit in the west, represented by the "outcrop" zone of the formation and, in the east, with an infinite length, on the seaside. The model analyses furthermore, the conditions of a recharge limit and barrier in the east, computed by means of addition of image wells in order to verify the possible influences and relationships between the aquifer and the sea. The drawdowns of the water levels were calculated by the Hantush equation, having been studied the sensibility of the model to the variations of permeability of the aquitard. The discharges by pumping, simulated according to rectilinear well batteries were established from projections of urban consumption of the several population nucleous up to the year 1995. The results obtained from the model show the great influence that the variatioirs of K' may cause on the declines of water levels. The limit of recharge on the west has little influence upon the drawdowns of the water levels in the exploitation wells close to the seashore. The maximum drawdown that could occur for the pumping conditions imposed, would be greater in 1985 (90 meters), on the seaside zone of Olinda. This suggests a greater dispersal of the exploitation wells and their preferential localization to the west, the closest possible to the recharge limit.en-US
