The Miocene sediments here studied are located in a narrow northwestern elongated bande, between longitudes 38°07' and 38°09' and latitudes 12°29' and 12º27', watershed of the Camburu, Jeruaba and Miacuzê creeks, 85 m high. The nearest town, Mata de São João, is located 17 km to southwest. There are no outcrops of the rocks, which were found through trenches 3 m deep. These sediments rest on Early Cretaceous deposits and are covered by Late Cenozoic non marine sediments. Marine, moderately shallow water might have been the environment of deposition (inner to center shelf). The reasons for this assumption are: Ammonia and miliolids very infrequent; Bolivina and Elphidiidae common; fine preservation of the fossils including delicate structures. Uplifted block-faulting must be the cause for the present position of the Miocene sediments. The species of Foraminifera are listed and briefly described and one new species is proposed.en-US
