Grado de severidad de la enfermedad periodontal en pacientes diab?ticos: revisi?n de literatura

Abstract

[Espa?ol] La diabetes es una enfermedad metab?lica de alta prevalencia que tiene repercusiones sobre la salud general. La enfermedad periodontal representa uno de los trastornos de salud bucodental m?s frecuentes, afectando mayormente a individuos susceptibles. Se efectu? una revisi?n literaria que consisti? en analizar la relaci?n entre diabetes mellitus y enfermedad periodontal, con vistas a determinar el grado de severidad periodontal en pacientes con esta enfermedad sist?mica. Los hallazgos revelan que existen m?s ausencias dentarias, movilidad, sangrado al sondaje, profundidad de este y mayor deterioro del estado periodontal. Referente a severidad, se identificaron los grados B y C de acuerdo a la clasificaci?n de enfermedades periodontales de 2018. Puesto que las secuelas del paciente periodontal con diabetes mellitus son m?s graves, se proponen los buenos h?bitos alimenticios, la terapia periodontal y la buena higiene oral como medidas para contrarrestar los efectos adversos de estas enfermedades.

[English] Diabetes is a highly prevalent metabolic disease that has repercussions on general health. Periodontal disease represents one of the most frequent health disorders, affecting mainly susceptible individuals. A literature review was carried out in which the relationship between diabetes mellitus and periodontal disease was analyzed. The aim was to determine the severity of the periodontal disease in these patients. The findings reveal more tooth loss, mobility, bleeding on probing, greater probing depth and more damage to the periodontium. Regarding the severity of periodontal disease, grades B and C were identified in accordance with the 2018 classification of periodontal diseases. Since the negative consequences of having both periodontal disease and diabetes mellitus are greater, healthy eating habits, periodontal therapy and good oral hygiene are proposed as measures in order to counteract the negative effects that both diseases cause.
