dc.description.abstractThe production of energy is an essential phenomenon for a society, especially for technological activities. However, non-renewable sources are predominantly used for energy production. An alternative way to produce energy less aggressive to the environment, renewable and clean, through the use of photovoltaic devices. The difficulty of photovoltaic devices in absorbing non-infrared energy has encouraged the study of upconversion to augment a device solution. Doping with rare earth ions is intensively studied as spectroopic properties for the study of upconversion. These properties are the result of the shielding of the electronic layer 4f, which is an inner layer not completely filled. Because of this shielding the rare earth ions interact poorly with the crystalline field of the host medium. Among these ions, the ions of Erbium and Ytterbium stand out. This work is synthesized samples of borosilicate glasses doped with varying concentrations of Er3+ ions and constant concentration for ions of Yb3+, using the fusion method. After synthesis and analysis of the samples, the studies of its optical properties using optical absorption and photoluminescence techniques (stationary and with variations of power and temperature). Effects of ion concentration on the matrix are also observed.
