dc.description.abstractIn the present work, a study is made of the use of modern control techniques, in a bench for studies of rotor dynamics. For this, a simplification of a real model, proposed by Jeffcott, was used in order to obtain a mathematical expression that describes the behavior of the system for different types of inputs. In this way, it is possible to identify important design parameters that refers to the natural frequencies of the plant and the stability of the system and than to use Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) controllers to improve the response conditions of the system applied inputs. The objective of this work was solved using a controller of type PI-D, without the integral action of control, and the response to a unit step input that was previously underdamped, started to behave as critically damped.
