dc.description.abstractBrazil is a typically agricultural country and with an economic economy applied to commodity exports, the economic advances of the agricultural sector, responsible for thereabouts one third of the national GDP and one of the pillars of the Brazilian economy, demand continuous investments in the international market, which shows a market opening for civil engineering that is responsible for the infrastructure demanded by these advances. Because they are two of the oldest activities in the world, agriculture and civil construction, they often do not undergo rigorous production and management analyzes as deployed in the consumer goods industries. In this case study, they were sought the causes responsible for delays in the delivery of the work related to grain dryer bases. Thirteen possible causes were point, analyzed and detailed for a better understanding of their occurrence. After understanding the problem, how the causes were grouped according to the Ishikawa diagram. Action plans 5W2H was developed to solve the problems found at the work, finally, quantitative data on delays were used or the Pareto principle, demonstrating greater importance of correcting problems layout conception, workplace safety and modification of the structural project, which are responsible for 36,36% of the causes and 57,37% of schedule delays in relation to total. This study aimed approach the civil construction industry to the management tools, common in others sectors, applying these devices to the execution of engineering works. Focusing on the search for strategies that reduce the recurrence of actions that negatively interfere in the fulfillment of the deadlines of the projects, thus contributing to the application of continuous improvement in civil construction, enabling new studies focused on the same focus.
