This study intends to raise and analyze examples of retextualizations of wiretappings broadcasted in television, aiming at verifying, through a discourse analysis, the effects of meaning this transposition of genres may generate. Such retextualizations are of interest as they reveal certain appreciation and preference for some linguistics variants and not others. This happens because a great part of retextualization practices presented in the news make use of quotation marks or italics to highlight certain words, either highlighting those constructions considered errors when taking into consideration the standard linguistic variety or leaving other expressions unmarked. In this sense, inserted in the area of Linguistics and developed based on the principles of Sociolinguistics, this work starts with the contributions of theoreticians such as Bagno (2007) and Marcuschi (2010), who assist us in understanding the aspects of linguistic variation, retextualization and the work with language. However, the theoretical basis that conduct out analyses is the French Discourse Analysis, which allows us to understand the effects of meaning such highlights may generate. Thus, aiming to understand how the work of edition and retextualization of wiretaps is carried out and, especially, what the lack of homogeneity in such works may denote in relation to how media sees language and deals with linguistic variation of speakers from different economic classes, we sought to compose a corpus of retextualizations broadcasted in a period of one year in order to obtain a brief and current overview of how language is dealt with by media.
